SFA (French Acoustical Society) Awards

 During the congress, two awards from the SFA (French Acoustical Society) will be given : 

  • the French SFA medal to Anne-Chrisine Hladky from ISEMN, Lille France
  • the Foreign SFA medal to Alain Berry from Université de Sherbrooke, Canada
  • the Rocard SFA award to Augustin Ernoult from Jean Le Rond d'Alembert Sorbonne Université. 


Keynote lectures

Two plenaries lectures will be given by outstanding researchers Andrew Oxenham and Michel Versluis :

Pitch coding for speech and music perception: In the right place at the right time?

by Prof. Andrew Oxenham from University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA

Andrew Oxenham is a Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Otolaryngology at the University of Minnesota, USA. His areas of research include auditory and speech perception in people with normal hearing, impaired hearing, and cochlear implants. Specific areas of interest include pitch, auditory scene analysis, and context effects. He has published over 200 journal articles and book chapters, and has received awards from the Acoustical Society of America and the National Academy of Sciences. He is the founding co-Director of the University of Minnesota's Center for Applied and Translational Sensory Science (CATSS) and the founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Trends in Hearing. His work is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Bubbles and droplets nanotechnology for ultrasound diagnostics and therapy

Michel Versluis was born in The Netherlands in 1963. He graduated with a degree in physics in 1988 from the University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, with a special interest in molecular physics and astrophysics, working in the field of far-infrared laser spectroscopy of interstellar molecular species. Later, he specialized in the application of intense tunable ultraviolet lasers for flame diagnostics, resulting in a successful defense of his PhD thesis in 1992. After a two-year research position working on molecular dynamics at Griffith University (Brisbane, Australia) he continued to work on developing laser diagnostic techniques for internal combustion engines (Lund, Sweden) and industrial jet flames and solid rocket propellants (Delft, The Netherlands). Dr. Versluis is now full professor Physical and Medical Acoustics at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, in the Physics of Fluids group. He is an expert in ultra high-speed imaging with a particular interest in the use of microbubbles and microdroplets for medical applications, both in imaging and in therapy, and in the physics and control of bubbles and droplets in microfluidic applications in medicine and the nanotechnology industry.
